New Roots offers programs for youth and seniors to build social connections and community resiliency

Youth and Senior Engagement

Youth Food Justice

New Roots engages youth in agricultural and culinary activities to study a variety of academic and real-world topics, build meaningful social connections, and develop leadership and critical thinking skills.

Internships: New Roots runs youth spring and summer internships focused on the farm to table value chain, gaining gardening skills, and advocacy and leadership skills.

Refugee Elders

New Roots works with refugee and immigrant elders who have lived in the U.S. less than 5 years to help reduce feelings of isolation, increase connections to community, and improve mental and nutritional health.

Participants receive monthly home delivery of produce, experiential field trip opportunities, regular check-in calls from IRC staff, economic support through internal and external referrals, and assistance navigating federal and state benefit programs.
